Now marking three years at the top, Clemson’s own Fellowship of Christian Athletes has once again claimed the title of Best Student Organization.
Clemson FCA is a student‑led Christian organization with a mission of sharing Christ and glorifying God through community, worship, service and discipleship. The organization has been a part of the campus culture for many years and often welcomes alumni to share biblical teachings with current members. Contrary to its name, the organization is made up of Christ followers across campus — not only athletes.
“It’s called FCA because it’s under the organization of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. But we’re not all athletes. I’m certainly not an athlete,” the prayer and encouragement director of Clemson FCA told The Tiger in an interview.
In fact, the organization’s Thursday worship gatherings attract around 2,000 students each week, representing a range of majors, years and hometowns. The main gathering kicks off at 9:19 p.m., a nod to the verse First Corinthians 9:19, and welcomes guest speakers, pastors and student music groups. Worship gatherings take place in the amphitheater and are open to all students.
The organization aims to foster a sense of community, maintaining an entirely student-led leadership team while leaning on local pastors and religious leaders as advisors. The group grows in membership by approximately 10% a year, but still strives to remain intimate through small groups, Bible studies and other service opportunities. As the group grows, it also works to maintain personal relationships with members and foster a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
“Trying to make FCA smaller as it grows, I think, is where it’s headed,” the prayer and encouragement director said.
Despite being consistently named the Best Student Organization, FCA’s focus remains on glorifying God, not on recognition.
“Ultimately, it’s a great honor, and we appreciate it a lot, but it’s definitely not what we do it for,” he continued. “It’s just all through God, He’s blessed it, and we’re grateful for that, and we’re super grateful for the title.”
The group works to foster community and spread Christianity, an aspect of the organization that directors emphasize is a key attraction.
