A suspect has been identified and an investigation is underway after an individual was airlifted from Bowman Field Sunday night following an alleged assault and battery at a downtown Clemson bar.
The city of Clemson Police Department has identified a male suspect, and an investigation is underway, according to an incident report.
Both the injured individual and suspect are not students, according to Cameron Farish, owner of Tiger Town Tavern.
Around 10 p.m. on Sunday night, while two men were playing pool, a verbal altercation escalated into one man hitting a beer bottle on another man’s head upstairs at Tiger Town Tavern.
The men knew each other, and the injured individual checked the suspect into the membership-only space above the bar, according to Parish.
The paramedics on the scene determined that the person was unconscious and nonresponsive, according to Rick Cramer, fire chief for CUFD.
Paramedics for Pickens County EMS then decided it was necessary to call in a helicopter to fly the individual to Greenville.
A Prisma Health LifeNet helicopter soon landed on Bowman Field, transporting the individual to Greenville Memorial Hospital Trauma Center, according to Flightradar24.
Police from Clemson University and the city of Clemson responded to the incident, along with EMS from around the area.
