A man was arrested following a shooting in downtown Clemson in the early morning hours of Feb. 13.
Officers said that at around 2 a.m., 23-year-old Gavin Lamar Tukes opened fire in the Keith St. parking garage following an altercation. He allegedly grabbed a 9mm handgun from a vehicle and fired at least 14 rounds at a group of people attempting to flee.
No injuries were reported from the incident, as gunfire struck a concrete wall, nearly missing the door where individuals were trying to escape.
Tukes fled the scene in the same vehicle from which he acquired the weapon.
Later that day, the Seneca Police Department located the car within city limits following an emergency communications alert issued by the city of Clemson Police Department.
Tukes was arrested, and his firearm was seized as evidence. He was transported to the city of Clemson jail, according to city police.
Tukes has an extensive rap sheet and is currently on probation for violent crime convictions. As a convicted felon, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
He is charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and discharging a firearm into an occupied building.
Tukes was denied bond and is currently being held at the Pickens County Law Enforcement Center.
