Clemson University Police responded to a false report of armed individuals in the vicinity of two areas on campus Thursday night.
Officers responded to Cooper Library and Cribb Hall after receiving phone calls to departmental dispatch transferred from Voice over Internet Protocol, according to a statement from the University.
University Police are investigating the origins of the calls. The reports are believed to be attempts at swatting, a tactic to deceive emergency services, the statement says.
An initial safe alert was sent to all students at 9:14 p.m., saying that police had received threats that they determined to be false.
