Wells leads Tigers to ACC victory over Pittsburgh

Redshirt senior Rebecca Wells led the Tigers to victory over the Panthers last week with her first-place all-around score of 39.450.

Clemson gymnastics traveled to Pittsburgh on Feb. 9, where the Tigers went on to defeat the Panthers by a score of 196.375 to 195.900.

Redshirt senior Rebecca Wells started on bars for the Tigers, clinching a 9.775; freshman Trinity Webb and redshirt sophomore Trinity Brown both scored 9.775 as well. Graduate Kaitlin DeGuzman and redshirt junior Eve Jackson tied for second place, also matching Jackson’s season best. The Tigers ended the first rotation down by a score of 48.925 to Pitt’s 49.000.

Wells also led the rotation on vault, where she scored her season best of 9.850. Brown scored a 9.875, which was the highest-scoring vault routine of the rotation for the Tigers. Redshirt sophomore Madison Minner followed closely behind with a score of 9.800, helping the Tigers take the lead at the end of the second rotation 97.975-97.875.

Brie Clark and Wells both scored 9.900 on the floor, reaffirming why the Tigers came into the meet ranked No. 23 in the country. Molly Arnold, Brown, and Minner all put up routines, scoring 9.825 to close out the third rotation.

The Tigers closed out the meet on the beam, where redshirt freshman Lilly Lippeatt began the rotation, scoring 9.825. Redshirt sophomore Kielyn McCright also scored 9.825, while freshman Sierra Church followed with a 9.800. Wells earned first place in the event with her 9.925, leading the Tigers to their victory.

Wells went on to win first in the all-around with a score of 39.450 and tied with Clark to win floor.

The Tigers will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina, to take on the Wolfpack on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 4 p.m. Clemson will be back in Littlejohn Coliseum on Friday, Feb. 23, to compete against North Carolina.
