Former starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei is seeking his old spot on the Tigers’ roster following his transfer to Oregon State.
Uiagileli announced his move to the Beavers last December following widespread criticism, in addition to losing the starting job to then-freshman Cade Klubnik. However, after seeing the team pictures in Miami for the Orange Bowl, the former five-star recruit has been looking to come back to Death Valley due to FOMO.
In leaked messages with head coach Dabo Swinney, Ugaleele asked for a possible spot back with his old team, to which Swinney replied with a simple “no.”
Swinney’s leaked phone log also had several missed calls from Uiagagelei after Oregon State’s first spring practice. The former Clemson star also left a series of voicemails, even offering to be a waterboy. Swinney has not commented on the matter.
Fans are weary of Ugugalale’s request for a return.
“I think we are good with Klubnik. We’re good for sure,” an anonymous junior said. “Can players even transfer back anyways?”
“If I had to live in Oregon, I’d try to leave too,” another student said.
Many students and Clemson community members are ready for a Klubnik dynasty. With the exit of former offensive coordinator Brandon Streeter as well, many would like to pretend the last two seasons didn’t happen.
“I didn’t trust anyone who willingly drank Dr. Pepper anyways,” a longtime Clemson fan said about Uiiggaallee’s massive NIL deal with the soda brand.
Ukelele also realized that a beaver is a dumb mascot and would definitely lose in a fight against a tiger, which he said was a driving factor in his decision to return to the east coast.
Last season, Oregon State went 10-3 in comparison to Clemson’s 11-3. It has been rumored that Uigaleggei has decided Clemson has a superior orange as well, yet that is still not enough to bring the California native back to Tigertown.
