Ask any Clemson University student if they would like to experience a different kind of music genre at a concert in Death Valley. They will probably respond with a resounding “sí.” And now, students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the beauty of Latin music this upcoming football season.
Gente de Zona, a notable Latin group hailing from the country of Cuba, have announced their interest in performing in front of the Clemson fanbase at the home football game versus the Miami Hurricanes this upcoming season.
“We are excited to be performing in Death Valley,” said Alex Delgaldo, one of the founding members of the group. “The fanbase at Clemson is unmatched.”
What can the Clemson community expect from the famous Latin duo during their performance in Death Valley? First, expect it to be an upbeat and lively atmosphere during the concert. Gente de Zona is known for making their performances a literal celebration of Hispanic culture. Fans can expect the group’s biggest hits, including “La Gozadera,” “Si No Vuelves” and “Más Macarena.”
This innovative group has refused to limit the performance to the bounds of a classic concert. Excitingly, the duo has agreed to provide all play-by-play commentary during the game, singing commentary throughout the game for an immersive, lively experience. All commentary will be released immediately after the contest in a live album available on all streaming platforms.
And to truly get the Latin feel in the Upstate, Gente de Zona has also struck a deal with the guys on the field. In an announcement that could give Clemson a chance to actually beat Miami, all players, coaches and staff must communicate in Spanish for the entirety of the contest. Playbooks will be reset, and officials will be closely monitoring the dialects of both teams.
Clemson head coach Swabo Dinney, who recently told the press that he lived in Spain for three years, will surely be excited.
The stakes are truly high for this matchup. The duo has also announced that they will be naming an MVP from the winning team who will be invited to join Gente de Zona, upgrading the duo to a trio following the matchup.
“The performance is going to be special,” said Belac Yelrug, a Clemson student who was recently interviewed by The Kitten. “Gente de Zona has been one of my favorite artists for a long time. Their music always has an upbeat and groovy feel.”
Miami’s fanbase was a bit shocked by the announcement that dropped in March from Gente de Zona, who have toured Southern Florida and the Miami area many times, but has never experienced the group performing in such a unique way. Expect many Hurricanes fans to be at the game this fall following this latest news drop.
For those unfamiliar with the group, they have been making music since 2000. In addition, Gente de Zona has experimented with various genres, including reggaeton, tropical and salsa, among others.
Expect that this infusion of a different genre of music will be a big hit this upcoming fall.
