After Tigeroar announced their spring show on April 9 with a setlist full of hits from the 2012 cult classic “Pitch Perfect,” it caught the attention of popular a cappella group, Pentatonix, which has challenged the ensemble to a “riff off.”
The show will take place at the Brooks Center at 7 p.m. on April 1. Tickets are $50 for the public and $150 for Clemson students.
A recent poll of Pentatonix listeners revealed that popular Christmas albums “are just not enough,” prompting the band to search for a new sound.
The group has tried gospel, jazz, country and rhythm and blues, but nothing seems to be the right fit.
Scott Hoying, baritone of Pentonix, came out as a longtime fan of Clemson’s all-male a cappella group, Tigeroar. When the group’s “Pitch Perfect” show was announced, he became inspired by the joy that the franchise brought to audiences. The group turned to the movies to find their new sound.
This sparked the partnership between Tigeroar and Pentatonix.
Hoying reached out to David Conley, the current director of Tigeroar, to challenge the group to a “riff off.” Conley says he “is excited to take on Pentatonix.” The competition will be an excellent opportunity for his artists to learn from industry professionals.
This is a show you do not want to miss. Hopefully, both groups will aca-see you there!
