As congressional leaders, the media and your unhinged uncle talk about banning TikTok to stop the Chinese from spying on us, we all need to do our part to help our nation. But thanks to social media and the overall degradation of our society, there’s no escaping the alluring pull of a TikTok sound.
That’s why we need to use Instagram reels to save America.
Instagram reels is owned by Meta, formerly known as Facebook, the app you haven’t checked since 2017. Meta is a locally-owned (American) business led by Mark Zuckerberg, a human.
If you know the history of Facebook and now reels, it is the American dream at its finest: stealing someone else’s idea and making a boatload of money from it.
Reels is better than TikTok because it doesn’t collect your information and give it to the Chinese government. Instead, reels collects your information and gives it to the United States government. And that’s a cause we can all get around — right, patriot?
TikTok’s algorithm has also been criticized for showing users Chinese and Russian propaganda, especially as the war in Ukraine rages on. This should be a concern of any TikTok user. Without knowing it, you could be engaging in a level of doublethink that will not only hurt America, but your friends and family too.
Not to mention, there is no way to trust TikTok to keep American data safe. The Chinese government has overreaching security laws and can demand that TikTok provide user data with no public notice. If your data is stored in America, this can still occur with a national security letter under the Patriot Act, but at least it’s patriotic.
Meta also has a better track record of ensuring user data does not end up in the wrong hands. Ever since Cambridge Analytica, there have only been a few other scandals that we know about. Good job, Meta!
All in all, reels is a surefire way to keep enjoying the content you love while supporting the country that you love. Because, let’s be honest, Snapchat Spotlight was never really an option either.
